Material vs Non-material World
It always seems to be a big difficult between living material world oriented life and simultaneously conserve non-material goals. Usually if one is going to non-material (spiritual) world he should be free from burden, which is presented by material stuff. People of western civilization are overwhelmed with material world. We are not trying to say that material welfare is bad. No, it's difficult to imagine modern life in western society without money, credit, TVs, computers, autos etc. It makes our life easier and more colorful, but does it? What makes us really happy? We are not possessing things because we need to possess them - we do it because things bring us social status (of course, not for all but for majority). And that is a century long tradition of western society, based on private property law. But can we imagine for a second the world where private property will not be dominating? Vice versa the personal merits and spiritual achievements will bring high social status. It's utopia - will be a first thought of a lot of people. Yes, it is.
But let's think about some places on the earth where people think differently. The ones we know are Tibet, some places in India and Central Africa. Here people (at least majority) used to think differently about material world. There life is not easy from the point of view of western civilization; more to this they can be considered savages, but there is something that makes us think about them differently: may be we are machines and they are people? What is the difference between "savage" who lives his life with harmony with nature and himself and "civilized person" who lived his life fighting for money and probably destroying or devastating the nature with products of civilization. Western people have more chances to lose themselves in this fight.
We don't call to bury the progress; it's just desire ho to find the balance between material and non material world.
